Sodium Bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate 5% injection) is an electrolyte alkalinizer used to treat metabolic acidosis, which can occur in severe renal disease, uncontrolled diabetes, circulatory insufficiency due to shock, anoxia or severe dehydration, extracorporeal circulation of blood and severe primary lactic acidosis. Sodium bicarbonate is also used to treat certain drug intoxications, including barbiturates, or salicylates or methyl alcohol poisoning. Sodium bicarbonate is available in generic form.

Sodium Nitroprusside (Nitropress) Injection (sodium nitroprusside for injection)

Sodium nitroprusside is an antihypertensive drug indicated for the immediate reduction of blood pressure of adult and pediatric patients in hypertensive crises. Concomitant longer-acting antihypertensive medication should be administered so that the duration of treatment with sodium nitroprusside can be minimized. Sodium nitroprusside is also indicated for producing controlled hypotension in order to reduce bleeding during surgery, and for the treatment of acute congestive heart failure. Sodium nitroprusside is available in generic form.

Xyrem (sodium oxybate)

Xyrem (sodium oxybate) is a central nervous system depressant drug indicated for the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness and cataplexy in patients with narcolepsy.

Visicol (sodium phosphate monobasic monohydrate, sodium phosphate dibasic anhydrous)

Visicol (sodium phosphate monobasic monohydrate, sodium phosphate dibasic anhydrous) contains forms of phosphorus and is used to treat constipation and to clean the bowel before surgery, x-rays, endoscopy, or other intestinal procedures. Sodium biphosphate and sodium phosphate enemas are also used for general care after surgery and to help relieve impacted bowels.
