Valcyte (valganciclovir hcl)

Valcyte (valganciclovir hydrochloride) is an antiviral drug that treats cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection of the eye in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Valcyte also prevents CMV infection in patients who have received an organ transplant (kidney, heart, or kidney-pancreas).

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • fever,
  • easy bruising,
  • pale skin,
  • lightheadedness,
  • shortness of breath,
  • cold hands and feet,
  • chills,
  • tiredness,
  • seizure,
  • flu-like symptoms,
  • mouth sores,
  • pain or burning when you urinate,
  • skin sores,
  • unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum),
  • swelling in your feet or ankles
  • pain or swelling near your transplanted organ,
  • little or no urinating, and
