Theophylline in 5% Dextrose Injection is a methylxanthine used as an adjunct to inhaled beta-2 selective agonists and systemically administered corticosteroids for the treatment of acute exacerbations of the symptoms and reversible airflow obstruction associated with asthma and other chronic lung diseases such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Theophylline in 5% Dextrose Injection is available in generic form.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • fainting,
  • fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat,
  • confusion, and
  • muscle cramps,
  • dizziness
  • nausea or vomiting that does not stop,
