Solesta (dextranomer microspheres and stabilized sodium hyaluronate, in phosphate-buffered sodium chloride solution) is a tissue bulking agent indicated for the treatment of fecal incontinence in patients 18 years and older who have failed conservative therapy (e.g., diet, fiber therapy, anti-motility medications).

This drug may have the following side effects:

  • injection site pain
  • pain or discomfort in the rectum or anus
  • injection site hemorrhage
  • rectal hemorrhage
  • anal hemorrhage
  • rectal discharge
  • inflammation of the rectum and anus

  • lower abdominal pain
  • defecation urgency
  • painful defecation
  • rectal obstruction
  • injection site nodules
  • rectal abscess

  • difficult or painful sexual intercourse, and
