Rilutek (riluzole)

Rilutek (riluzole) is a benzothiazole drug indicated for the treatment of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Rilutek is available as a generic. Rilutek extends survival and/or time to tracheostomy.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • nausea,
  • headache,
  • lightheadedness,
  • dizziness,
  • vomiting,
  • diarrhea,
  • weakness,
  • constipation,
  • stomach pain,
  • tiredness,
  • drowsiness,
  • spinning sensation,
  • muscle stiffness, 
  • loss of appetite, or
  • decreased lung function,
  • numbness or tingly feeling in or around your mouth,
  • runny nose.
The following drugs are related to Rilutek, either as a replacement or used together:
  • Radicava (edaravone injection)
  • Exservan (riluzole oral film)
  • Spinraza Solution (nusinersen)
  • Qaslody (tofersen injection, for intrathecal use)
  • Relyvrio (sodium phenylbutyrate and taurursodiol for oral suspension)
  • Tiglutik (riluzole oral suspension)
