Virazole (ribavirin)

Virazole (ribavirin) for Inhalation Solution is an antiviral drug used to treat infants and young children who have a severe lung infection caused by the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Virazole is not recommended for use in adults.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • fever,
  • wheezing,
  • cough,
  • shallow breathing,
  • severe weakness,
  • gasping for breath,
  • cough with mucus, and
  • cold and clammy skin,
  • blue-colored lips,
  • limpness,
  • other worsening breathing problems
The following drugs are related to Virazole, either as a replacement or used together:
  • Moderiba (ribavirin tablets)
  • Synagis (palivizumab)
