Oxacillin (Brand name: Bactocil) is a penicillin-type antibiotic used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria, such as a staphylococcal (also called "staph") infection. Oxacillin is available in generic form.

This drug may have the following side effects:

• hives,
• difficulty breathing,
• swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
• nausea,
• upper stomach pain,
• loss of appetite,
• itching,
• dark urine,
• vomiting,
• fever,
• swollen glands,
• skin rash,
• lightheadedness,
• chills,
• tiredness,
• stomach pain,
• clay-colored stools,
• yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice),
• cough
• joint pain,
• wheezing,
• sore throat,
• little or no urination,
• painful or difficult urination,
• mouth sores,
• skin sores,
• swollen gums,
• diarrhea that is watery or bloody,
• red or pink urine,
• pain when swallowing,
• feeling ill,
• bruising or swelling around the IV needle,
• cold or flu symptoms, and
