Prilosec (omeprazole)
type of Proton Pump Inhibitors
Prilosec (omeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used for the treatment of conditions such as ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, which are all caused by stomach acid. Prilosec is available in generic form.
This drug may have the following side effects:
- dizziness,
- swelling,
- cough,
- little or no urination,
- muscle cramps,
- severe stomach pain,
- rapid weight gain,
- irregular heartbeats,
- seizure (convulsions),
- muscle spasms,
- diarrhea that is watery or bloody,
- feeling jittery,
- blood in your urine,
- joint pain, and
- choking feeling,
- new or unusual pain in wrist, thigh, hip or back,
- skin rash on your cheeks or arms that worsen with sunlight
