Sandostatin (octreotide acetate)

Sandostatin (octreotide acetate) is an octapeptide used to treat acromegaly and bleeding variceal veins. Sandostatin is also used to reduce flushing episodes and watery diarrhea caused by cancerous tumors (carcinoid syndrome) or tumors called vasoactive intestinal peptide tumors (VIP adenomas). Sandostatin may be available in generic form.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • nausea,
  • vomiting,
  • weight loss,
  • confusion,
  • dizziness,
  • blurred vision,
  • dry mouth,
  • headache,
  • sweating,
  • weakness,
  • increased thirst,
  • increased urination,
  • fruity breath odor,
  • drowsiness,
  • irritability,
  • fast heart rate,
  • hunger,
  • dry skin,
  • severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back,
  • hoarse voice,
  • severe constipation,
  • feeling jittery,
  • muscle pain or weakness,
  • slow or uneven heartbeats,
  • weight gain
  • joint pain or stiffness,
  • severe stomach pain or tenderness,
  • extreme tired feeling,
  • sensitivity to cold temperatures, and
