Nipride RTU (sodium nitroprusside injection)

Nipride RTU (sodium nitroprusside) in 0.9% sodium chloride injection is a direct acting vasodilator indicated for immediate reduction of blood pressure; producing controlled hypotension to reduce bleeding during surgery; and treatment of acute heart failure to reduce left ventricular end-diastolic pressure, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, peripheral vascular resistance and mean arterial blood pressure.

The drug is often used to treat Heart failure .

This drug may have the following side effects:

• low blood pressure (hypotension), and
• cyanide toxicity,
• thiocyanate toxicity,
• blood disorder (methemoglobinemia), and
• increases in intracranial pressure.
