Neutrexin (trimetrexate glucuronate inj)

Neutrexin (trimetrexate glucuronate) for Injection is an inhibitor of the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) used along with leucovorin as an alternative therapy for the treatment of moderate-to-severe Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) in immunocompromised patients, including patients with the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), who are intolerant of, or are refractory to, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole therapy or for whom trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole is contraindicated. The brand name Neutrexin is discontinued, but generic versions may be available.

The drug is often used to treat Pneumonia .

This drug may have the following side effects:

• nausea
• fever
• vomiting
• confusion, and
• fatigue
• low white blood cell count (neutropenia)
• rash and itching
