Mircera (methoxy polyethylene glycol-epoetin beta)

Mircera (methoxy polyethylene glycol-epoetin beta) is a man-made form of a protein that is normally produced by the kidneys to help the body produce red blood cells used to treat anemia (a lack of red blood cells in the body). Mircera is not for treating anemia caused by cancer chemotherapy.

This drug may have the following side effects:

• nausea,
• vomiting,
• diarrhea,
• constipation,
• back pain,
• headache,
• cough,
• sore throat,
• stuffy nose,
• muscle aches or spasms,
• pain in the arms or legs,
• injection
• site reactions (itching, redness, bruising, or swelling),
• high or low blood pressure, or
• urinary tract infections

The following drugs are related to Mircera, either as a replacement or used together:

• Auryxia (ferric citrate tablets)
• Glofil-125 (sodium iothalamate i-125 injection solution)
• Velphoro (sucroferric oxyhydroxide chewable tablets)
