Tapazole (methimazole)

Tapazole (methimazole) is an anti-thyroid drug used to treat hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). Tapazole is also used before thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine treatment. Tapazole is available in generic form.

This drug may have the following side effects:

• nausea,
• vomiting,
• dizziness,
• headache,
• drowsiness,
• stomach upset,
• swelling, or
• mild skin rash/itching,
• muscle/joint/nerve pain,
• hair loss.
