Pentasa (mesalamine)

type of 5-Aminosalicylic Acid Derivatives

Pentasa (mesalamine) is an anti-inflammatory agent used to treat ulcerative colitis, proctitis, and proctosigmoiditis. Pentasa is also used to prevent the symptoms of ulcerative colitis from recurring.

The drug is often used to treat Ulcerative colitis .

This drug may have the following side effects:

• upper stomach pain,
• loss of appetite,
• dark urine,
• clay-colored stools, and
• fever,
• skin rash,
• tiredness,
• headache,
• little or no urination,
• painful or difficult urination,
• swelling in your feet or ankles,
• severe stomach pain,
• bloody or tarry stools,
• coughing up blood,
• vomit that looks like coffee grounds,
• easy bruising or bleeding,
• yellowing of the skin or eyes
• bloody diarrhea,
• stomach cramping,
• feeling tired or short of breath,
