Namenda XR (memantine hydrochloride) Extended Release is an NMDA receptor antagonist used to treat moderate to severe dementia of the Alzheimer's type.

The drug is often used to treat Dementia .

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • nausea,
  • headache,
  • dizziness,
  • vomiting,
  • diarrhea,
  • constipation,
  • skin rash,
  • joint pain,
  • loss of appetite,
  • drowsiness,
  • anxiety,
  • back pain,
  • abdominal pain,
  • tired feeling,
  • fast heart rate,
  • easy bruising or bleeding, 
  • urinating more than usual,
  • depression, and
  • swelling in your hands or feet,
  • aggression, 
  • unusual weakness,
  • weight loss or gain,
  • redness or swelling of or around your eyes,
  • influenza,
  • high or low blood pressure.
