Megace ES (megestrol acetate)

Megace ES (megestrol) oral suspension is a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone used to increase appetite and prevent weight loss in patients with AIDS or other diseases that cause decreased appetite and weight loss. Megace ES is also used to treat cancer of the breast or uterus.

This drug may have the following side effects:

• weight gain,
• diarrhea,
• weakness,
• skin rash,
• fever,
• trouble sleeping (insomnia),
• gas,
• stomach upset,
• impotence, or
• changes in appetite,
• menstrual changes or vaginal bleeding,
• decreased interest in sex,
• trouble having an orgasm.

The following drugs are related to Megace ES, either as a replacement or used together:

• Femara (letrozole)
• Nolvadex (tamoxifen citrate)
