Maxide (triamterene and hydrochlorothiazide tablets)

Maxzide (triamterene and hydrochlorothiazide) is a combination of a potassium-conserving diuretic and a natriuretic agent and is prescribed as a treatment for hypertension (high blood pressure) and edema. Maxzide is also a diuretic given to patients who cannot risk low blood potassium. Maxzide may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs, such as beta-blockers but dosages may need to be adjusted; regardless, potassium levels in patients is recommended for all patients taking Maxzide. Maxzide is available in generic form.
This drug may have the following side effects:
- hives,
- difficulty breathing,
- swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
- nausea,
- loss of appetite,
- dark urine,
- vomiting,
- fever,
- lightheadedness,
- shortness of breath,
- tiredness,
- stomach pain,
- yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice),
- chest pain,
- fluttering in your chest,
- blurred vision,
- weakness, and
- constipation,
- dry mouth,
- flu-like symptoms,
- sore throat,
- burning eyes,
- skin pain,
- red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling,
- little or no urination,
- increased thirst,
- increased urination,
- muscle weakness,
- swelling in your feet or ankles,
- drowsiness,
- eye pain,
- muscle or joint pain,
- tunnel vision,
- seeing halos around lights,
- tingly feeling,
- leg cramps,
- numbness or tingling,
- limp feeling,
- restlessness
- loss of movement,
- thirst,
- upper stomach pain (may spread to your back),
- fast, slow, or uneven heart rate,
- rash or patchy skin color that worsens in sunlight,
