Maxalt (rizatriptan benzoate)
type of Antimigraine Agents, Serotonin 5-HT-Receptor Agonists
Maxalt (rizatriptan) tablets is a selective 5-hydroxytryptamine1B/1D (5-HT1B/1D) receptor agonist used to treat the pain of migraine headache. Maxalt is believed to work by narrowing the blood vessels around the brain and by decreasing levels of substances involved in the development of migraine pain. Maxalt will only treat a headache that has already begun. Maxalt will not prevent headaches or reduce the number of attacks.
The drug is often used to treat Migraine .
This drug may have the following side effects:
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- diarrhea,
- fever,
- pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder,
- severe headache,
- blurred vision,
- pounding in your neck or ears,
- sweating,
- agitation,
- shivering,
- chest pain or pressure,
- sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body),
- hallucinations,
- twitching,
- fast heart rate,
- loss of coordination,
- bloody diarrhea,
- muscle stiffness,
- sudden severe headache,
- slurred speech, and
- cold feeling,
- sudden and severe stomach pain,
- problems with vision or balance
- numbness in your feet and hands,
