Orkambi (lumacaftor and ivacaftor film-coated tablets for oral administration)

Orkambi (lumacaftor/ivacaftor) is a combination of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) potentiators indicated for the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF) in patients age 12 years and older who are homozygous for the F508del mutation in the CFTR gene.

The drug is often used to treat Cystic fibrosis .

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • shortness of breath,
  • nausea,
  • diarrhea,
  • runny nose,
  • rash,
  • flu symptoms,
  • gas,
  • fatigue,
  • upper respiratory tract infection,
  • menstrual changes, and 
  • sore throat and stuffy nose (nasopharyngitis),
  • abnormal breathing,
  • increased blood creatine phosphokinase,
  • increases in blood pressure.
The following drugs are related to Orkambi, either as a replacement or used together:
  • Bronchitol (mannitol inhalation powder, for oral inhalation use)
  • Trikafta (lexacaftor, tezacaftor and ivacaftor tablets; ivacaftor tablets)
