Liposyn III 30% (intravenous fat emulsion) is a source of calories and fat used in patients requiring parenteral nutrition. Where such nutrition is required for extended periods of time (more than 5 days), Liposyn III 30% is also indicated as a source of essential fatty acids to prevent or reverse biochemical changes in fatty acid composition of plasma lipids (elevated triene/tetraene ratio) and the clinical manifestations of essential fatty acid deficiency (EFAD). Liposyn III 30% is available in generic form.

This drug may have the following side effects:

  • nausea,
  • loss of appetite,
  • rash,
  • diarrhea,
  • fever,
  • easy bruising,
  • pale skin,
  • lightheadedness,
  • chills,
  • tiredness,
  • dizziness,
  • joint pain,
  • vomiting,
  • headache,
  • fainting,
  • sweating,
  • weakness,
  • cough,
  • shivering,
  • chest pain or pressure,
  • sore throat,
  • painful urination,
  • increased thirst,
  • fruity breath odor,
  • hoarseness,
  • runny nose,
  • muscle cramps,
  • coughing up blood,
  • increased urge to urinate,
  • feeling unwell,
  • muscle pain,
  • paralysis,
  • stomach pain, and
  • bladder pain,
  • back or side pain,
  • black or tarry stools,
  • cloudy urine,
  • difficulty sleeping,
  • accumulation of pus,
  • blue lips or skin,
  • excessive muscle tone,
  • fast, slow or irregular heartbeat,
  • sores or white spots in the mouth,
  • unusual bleeding (gums, nosebleed, heavy menstrual bleeding),
  • changes in skin color,
  • numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness in the hands or feet,
  • red or dark brown urine,
  • swelling and redness in the lower leg
