Xylocaine MPF Sterile Solution (lidocaine hcl sterile solution)

4% Xylocaine-MPF (lidocaine HCl) Sterile Solution is a local anesthetic used to numb an area of your body to help reduce pain or discomfort caused by invasive medical procedures such as surgery, needle punctures, or insertion of a catheter or breathing tube. 4% Xylocaine-MPF is also given in an epidural (spinal block) to reduce the discomfort of contractions during labor, and is sometimes used to treat irregular heart rhythms that may signal a possible heart attack. 4% Xylocaine-MPF is available in generic form.

This drug may have the following side effects:

• dizziness
• nausea, and
• injection site reactions (bruising, redness, itching, or swelling)
• numbness in places where the medicine is accidentally applied
