Skyla (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system)

Skyla (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system) is an intrauterine device (IUD) that contains the female hormone progestin, and is a contraceptive used to prevent pregnancy for up to 3 years.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • fever,
  • confusion,
  • dizziness,
  • back pain,
  • low blood pressure,
  • swelling,
  • abnormal vaginal bleeding,
  • cramping,
  • pelvic pain,
  • rash,
  • vaginal bleeding,
  • perforation,
  • pregnancy,
  • abdominal, pelvic or pain on the side of the body,
  • severe pain,
  • unusual discharge with bad odor from your vagina,
  • pain and/or bleeding when you have sex,
  • burning sensation when you urinate,
  • bleeding between periods,
  • expulsion,
  • excessive hairiness,
  • irregular menstrual periods, and
  • changes in menstrual periods
