Refludan (lepirudin)

Refludan (lepirudin) is a direct inhibitor of thrombin, which works by keeping the platelets in the blood from coagulating (clotting) to treat or prevent unwanted blood clots that can occur with certain heart or blood vessel conditions.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • nausea,
  • vomiting,
  • fever,
  • headache,
  • nervousness,
  • restlessness,
  • pain in the back or pelvis,
  • sleep problems (insomnia), or
  • stomach pain or upset,
  • injection site reactions (pain, bleeding, or irritation)
