Kuvan (saproterin dihydrochloride tablets)

Kuvan (saproterin dihydrochloride tablets) is a synthetic form of a natural salt that contributes to the function of a certain enzyme in the body used to help the body activate the enzyme needed to control blood levels of phenylalanine. Kuvan is used in people with phenylketonuria (PKU).

This drug may have the following side effects:

• hives,
• difficulty breathing,
• swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
• nausea,
• loss of appetite,
• rash,
• vomiting,
• lightheadedness,
• wheezing,
• cough,
• seizures,
• coughing up blood,
• difficulty swallowing,
• problems with speech,
• flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling),
• behavior changes,
• blood or tarry stools,
• throat pain,
• severe stomach discomfort or pain,
• vomit that looks like coffee grounds, and
• hyperactive behavior
