Ixiaro (japanese encephalitis vaccine)

Ixiaro (Japanese encephalitis vaccine, inactivated, adsorbed) is an immunization used to help prevent Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) in adults and adolescents who are at least 17 years old, and is recommended for people who live in or travel to areas where Japanese encephalitis is known to exist, or where an epidemic has recently occurred. Ixiaro works by exposing you to a small dose of the virus, which causes the body to develop immunity to the disease. Ixiaro vaccine will not treat an active infection.

This drug may have the following side effects:

• hives,
• difficulty breathing,
• swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
• weakness, and
• severe dizziness,
• fast heart rate

The following drugs are related to Ixiaro, either as a replacement or used together:

• Vaxelis (diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and acellular pertussis adsorbed, inactivated poliovirus, haemophilus b conjugate [meningococcal protein conjugate] and hepatitis b [recombinant] vaccine)
• Je-Vax (japanese encephalitis virus vaccine inactivated)
