Intron A (interferon alfa-2b, recombinant for injection)

Intron A (Interferon alfa-2b) is an alpha interferon made from human proteins used to treat hairy cell leukemia, malignant melanoma, follicular lymphoma, Kaposi's sarcoma caused by AIDS, certain types of genital warts, and chronic hepatitis B or C. Intron A is often used in combination with another drug called ribavirin (Rebetol).

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • nausea,
  • loss of appetite,
  • yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • vomiting,
  • fever,
  • lightheadedness,
  • confusion,
  • chills,
  • fast heartbeats,
  • body aches,
  • joint pain or swelling,
  • chest pain,
  • sweating,
  • chest pain or pressure,
  • dark urine, and
  • anxiety,
  • sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body),
  • slurred speech,
  • depression,
  • irritability,
  • vision changes,
  • new or worsening cough,
  • pain or burning when you urinate,
  • cold feeling,
  • thoughts about self-harm,
  • upper stomach pain (may spread to your back),
  • skin rash with blistering and peeling,
  • falling back into a previous pattern of drug addiction,
  • problems with your teeth,
  • severe stomach pain with bloody diarrhea,
  • problems with balance,
  • skin problems,
  • pale appearance in your fingers or toes,
  • cough with yellow or pink mucus,
