NeoProfen (ibuprofen lysine) Injection is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to close a clinically significant patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in premature infants weighing between 500 and 1500 g, who are no more than 32 weeks gestational age when usual medical management (e.g., fluid restriction, diuretics, respiratory support, etc.) is ineffective.
This drug may have the following side effects:
- hives,
- difficulty breathing,
- swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
- nausea,
- loss of appetite,
- dark urine,
- fever,
- unusual bleeding,
- pale skin,
- lightheadedness,
- shortness of breath,
- cold hands and feet,
- chills,
- yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice),
- chest pain,
- severe headache,
- pounding in your neck or ears,
- swelling,
- weakness,
- unusual tiredness,
- sore throat,
- burning eyes,
- skin pain,
- red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling,
- little or no urination,
- stomach pain (upper right side),
- rapid weight gain,
- irregular heartbeats,
- slurred speech,
- bloody or tarry stools,
- tingly feeling,
- coughing up blood, and
- vomit that looks like coffee grounds
- fussiness,
- loss of movement,
- sudden numbness or weakness on one side of the body,
- changes in your vision,
- chest pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder,
- Serious side effects specific to babies:
- bruising, swelling, warmth, redness, or irritation where the IV needle is placed
