Orthovisc (hyaluronan)

Orthovisc (high molecular weight hyaluronan) is a natural complex sugar of the glycosaminoglycan family derived from bacterial cells indicated in the treatment of pain in osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee in patients who have failed to respond adequately to conservative nonpharmacologic therapy and to simple analgesics, e.g., acetaminophen.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • injection site reactions (pain, swelling, heat, rash, itching, bruising, redness),
  • achiness,
  • allergic/anaphylactic reactions, and
  • transient low blood pressure (hypotension).

  • Arthrotec (diclofenac sodium, misoprostol)
  • Cataflam (diclofenac potassium immediate-release tablets)
  • Celebrex (celecoxib)
  • Cymbalta (duloxetine hcl)
  • Voltaren (diclofenac sodium)
  • Euflexxa (sodium hyaluronate intra-articular injection, 1%)
  • Hymovis (high molecular weight viscoelastic hyaluronan)
  • Hyalgan (hyaluronate)
  • Mobic (meloxicam)
  • Vimovo (naproxen and esomeprazole magnesium delayed release tablets)
  • Supartz FX (sodium hyaluronate solution)
