Fluorescite (fluorescein)

Fluorescite (fluorescein injection) 10% is a diagnostic aid used in diagnostic fluorescein angiography or angioscopy of the retina and iris vasculature. Fluorescite is available in generic form.

This drug may have the following side effects:

• nausea,
• headache,
• low blood pressure (hypotension),
• vomiting,
• itching,
• upset stomach,
• hives, 
• fainting, 
• cardiac arrest,
• convulsions,
• hypersensitivity reactions,
• shock,
• injection site reactions (dull aching pain, fluid leakage, blood clots),
  
• bronchospasm,
• severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), and
• a strong taste in the mouth.

The following drugs are related to Fluorescite, either as a replacement or used together:

• Altafluor (fluorescein sodium and benoxinate ophthalmic solution)
• Gastrografin (diatrizoate meglumine and diatrizoate sodium solution)
• Flurox (fluorescein sodium and benoxinate hydrochloride ophthalmic solution)
