Fexinidazole (fexinidazole tablets)

Fexinidazole is a nitroimidazole antimicrobial, indicated for the treatment of both first-stage (hemolymphatic) and second-stage (meningoencephalitic) human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) due to Trypanosoma brucei gambiense in patients 6 years of age and older and weighing at least 20 kg. 

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • chest pain,
  • headache,
  • blurred vision,
  • weakness,
  • cough,
  • sore throat,
  • loss of appetite,
  • nervousness,
  • fever,
  • shaking,
  • chills,
  • pale skin,
  • restlessness,
  • dry mouth,
  • tiredness,
  • depression,
  • hives, 
  • difficulty breathing, 
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, 
  • easy bruising, 
  • confusion, 
  • anxiety,
  • irritability,
  • unusual bleeding, 
  • severe dizziness, 
  • thoughts of self-harm, 
  • painful or difficult urination, 
  • black or tarry stools, 
  • lower back pain or side pain, 
  • mental or mood changes, 
  • muscle cramps or spasms, 
  • numbness and tingling around the mouth, fingertips, or feet, 
  • shakiness in the arms, legs, hands, or feet, 
  • stomach pain or cramps, 
  • swelling of the feet or lower legs, 
  • trembling or shaking of the hands or feet, 
  • difficulty sleeping, 
  • white spots in the mouth, 
  • rapid or shallow breathing, 
  • fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeat, 
  • pounding in the ears, 
  • personality changes, 
  • hallucination, 
  • difficulty concentrating, 
  • fainting, and 
  • nightmares
