Extraneal (icodextrin peritoneal dialysis solution)

Extraneal (icodextrin) is a peritoneal dialysis solution used in peritoneal dialysis that lasts 8 hours or longer (also called the long dwell exchange).

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • headache
  • nausea
  • swelling
  • chest pain
  • high blood pressure
  • stomach pain or upset
  • new or worsening cough
  • infection in the peritoneal cavity (peritonitis)
  • flu-like symptoms, or
  • high blood sugar
