Nexium (esomeprazole magnesium)
type of Proton Pump Inhibitors
Nexium (esomeprazole magnesium) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that blocks acid production in the stomach and is used to treat stomach and duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Nexium is available as a generic.
This drug may have the following side effects:
- dizziness,
- swelling,
- blood in the urine,
- little or no urination,
- muscle cramps,
- severe stomach pain,
- rapid weight gain,
- seizure (convulsions),
- diarrhea that is watery or bloody,
- feeling jittery,
- cough or choking feeling,
- joint pain, and
- fast or irregular heart rate,
- tremors or jerking muscle movements,
- muscle spasm in your hands and feet,
- skin rash on your cheeks or arms which worsens in the sun
