Lexapro (escitalopram oxalate)

Lexapro (escitalopram) is type of antidepressant called a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat anxiety in adults and major depressive disorder in adults and adolescents who are at least 12 years old.

This drug may have the following side effects:

• vomiting,
• confusion,
• chest pain,
• blurred vision,
• headache,
• sweating,
• hot flashes,
• slurred speech,
• very stiff (rigid) muscles,
• high fever,
• tremors, and
• lightheadedness
• abdominal pain,
• eye pain or swelling,
• severe weakness,

• seeing halos around lights,
• loss of coordination,
• feeling unsteady,
• heartburn,
• racing thoughts,
• unusual risk-taking behavior,
• Abnormal bleeding,
• Abnormal dreams,
• Allergy,
• decreased concentration,

• feelings of extreme happiness or sadness,
• fast or uneven heartbeat,
