Elmiron (pentosan polysulfate sodium) is a weak blood thinner and also works as a bladder protectant used to treat bladder pain and discomfort caused by cystitis (bladder inflammation or irritation).

The drug is often used to treat Cystitis .

This drug may have the following side effects:

• hives,
• difficulty breathing,
• swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
• nosebleed,
• bleeding gums, and
• lightheadedness
• coughing up blood,
• blood in your urine or stools,
• rectal bleeding,
