Effexor XR (venlafaxine hydrochloride extended-release) is an antidepressant used to treat patients with major depressive disorders such as panic and social disorders. Effexor XR is available as a generic.

This drug may have the following side effects:

• vomiting,
• lightheadedness,
• confusion,
• blurred vision,
• diarrhea
• headache,
• sweating,
• cough,
• agitation,
• shivering,
• slurred speech,
• very stiff (rigid) muscles,
• high fever,
• fast or uneven heartbeats,
