Droxia (hydroxyurea capsules)

Droxia (hydroxyurea) is an antimetabolite that affects certain cells in the body, such as cancer cells or sickled red blood cells, used to treat melanoma (a type of skin cancer), chronic myelocytic leukemia, cancer of the ovary, and primary squamous cell (skin) cancer of the head and neck. Droxia is also used to treat sickle cell anemia.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • nausea,
  • loss of appetite,
  • yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • vomiting,
  • fever,
  • easy bruising,
  • unusual bleeding,
  • pale skin,
  • lightheadedness,
  • shortness of breath,
  • cold hands and feet,
  • chills,
  • tiredness,
  • wheezing,
  • mouth sores,
  • dark urine, and
  • fast heart rate,
  • dry cough,
  • severe dizziness,
  • numbness, tingling, or burning pain in your hands or feet,
  • skin numbness or purple discoloration,
  • skin ulcers,
  • open sores,
  • sudden chest pain,
  • upper stomach pain (may spread to your back),
