Dotarem (gadoterate meglumine for use with magnetic resonance imaging)

Dotarem (gadoterate meglumine) is a paramagnetic macrocyclic ionic contrast agent for intravenous use with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in brain (intracranial), spine and associated tissues in adult and pediatric patients (2 years of age and older) to detect and visualize areas with disruption of the blood brain barrier (BBB) and/or abnormal vascularity.

This drug may have the following side effects:

• hives,
• difficulty breathing,
• swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
• muscle weakness,
• painful or difficult urination,
• swelling in your feet or ankles,
• shortness of breath
• tiredness, and
• burning, itching, swelling, scaling, and tightening or hardening of your skin,
• joint stiffness in your arms, hands, legs, or feet,
• deep bone pain in your ribs or your hips,
• trouble moving,
• skin redness or discoloration,
• little or urinating,
