Sensipar (cinacalcet)

Sensipar (cinacalcet) is a calcimimetic agent that decreases levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, and phosphorous in the body used to treat hyperparathyroidism (overactive parathyroid glands) in people who are on long-term dialysis for kidney disease. Sensipar is also used to lower calcium levels in people with cancer of the parathyroid gland.

This drug may have the following side effects:

• hives,
• difficulty breathing,
• swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
• shortness of breath,
• seizure,
• swelling,
• rapid weight gain,
• bloody or tarry stools,
• coughing up blood,
• vomit that looks like coffee grounds,
• fast or slow heart rate, and
• overactive reflexes
• numbness or tingly feeling around your mouth,
• muscle pain, tightness, or contraction,

The following drugs are related to Sensipar, either as a replacement or used together:

• Korsuva (difelikefalin injection)
• Glofil-125 (sodium iothalamate i-125 injection solution)
• Sodium Iodide I 131 (sodium iodide i 131 capsules)
