Cholbam (cholic acid capsules)

Cholbam (cholic acid) is a bile acid used to treat bile acid synthesis disorders due to single enzyme defects (SEDs). It is also used for adjunctive treatment of peroxisomal disorders (PDs) including Zellweger spectrum disorders in patients who exhibit manifestations of liver disease, steatorrhea or complications from decreased fat-soluble vitamin absorption.
The drug is often used to treat Liver disease .
This drug may have the following side effects:
- hives,
- difficulty breathing,
- swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
- nausea,
- upper stomach pain,
- loss of appetite,
- itching,
- dark urine,
- clay-colored stools, and
- yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
- pain or burning when you urinate,
- blood in your stools,
- tired feeling,
- changes in your bowel habits (diarrhea or constipation),
