Chateal (levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol tablets)

Chateal (levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol tablets, 0.15 mg/0.03 mg) is a combined oral contraceptive used to prevent pregnancy in women who elect to use this product as a method of contraception.
This drug may have the following side effects:
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- missed menstrual periods,
- change in vaginal discharge,
- breakthrough bleeding,
- spotting,
- changes in menstrual flow,
- fluid retention (edema),
- cholestatic jaundice,
- rash (allergic),
- problems with contact lenses,
- aggravation of varicose veins, and
- gastrointestinal symptoms (such as abdominal pain, cramps and bloating),
- temporary infertility after discontinuation of treatment,
- skin discoloration/dark spots (melasma) which may persist,
- breast changes (tenderness, pain, enlargement, secretion),
- change in weight or appetite,
- diminished lactation when given immediately postpartum,
- mood changes (including depression),
- vaginitis (including vaginal yeast infection),
- mesenteric thrombosis,
- decrease in blood folate levels,
- worsening of systemic lupus erythematosus,
- worsening of porphyria,
- worsening of chorea,
