Cervidil (dinoprostone) Vaginal Insert is a prostaglandin, a hormone-like substance that is naturally produced by the body, used in a pregnant woman to relax the muscles of the cervix (opening of the uterus) in preparation for inducing labor at the end of a pregnancy.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • nausea,
  • vomiting,
  • diarrhea,
  • fever,
  • back pain, or
  • abdominal or stomach pain,
  • a feeling of warmth in the vaginal area.
The following drugs are related to Cervidil, either as a replacement or used together:
  • Prepidil (dinoprostone cervical gel)
  • Prostin E2 (dinoprostone vaginal suppository)
