Buphenyl (sodium phenylbutyrate) is a urea cycle disorder agent that helps prevent a build-up of ammonia in the blood and is used to treat urea cycle disorders in people who lack certain liver enzymes needed to properly eliminate waste substances from the body. Buphenyl is available in generic form.
This drug may have the following side effects:
- hives,
- difficulty breathing,
- swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
- vomiting,
- pale skin,
- lightheadedness,
- confusion,
- severe drowsiness,
- seizure,
- swelling,
- fainting,
- shortness of breath, and
- rapid weight gain,
- slurred speech,
- mood or behavior changes,
- thinking problems,
- muscle twitching,
- rapid heart rate
- memory loss,
- back and forth movement of the eyes,
- increasing weakness,
