Ortikos (budesonide extended-release capsules)

Ortikos (budesonide) is a corticosteroid indicated for treatment of mild to moderate active Crohn's disease involving the ileum and/or the ascending colon, in patients 8 years and older; and maintenance of clinical remission of mild to moderate Crohn's disease involving the ileum and/or the ascending colon for up to 3 months in adults.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • nausea,
  • vomiting,
  • easy bruising,
  • lightheadedness,
  • tiredness,
  • weakness,
  • pain or burning when you urinate,
  • thinning skin,
  • rectal bleeding,
  • stretch marks,
  • swelling in your ankles,
  • increased acne or facial hair,
  • menstrual problems (in women),
  • impotence or loss of interest in sex (in men),
  • increased body fat, and
  • changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your face, neck, back, and waist)
The following drugs are related to Ortikos, either as a replacement or used together:
  • Humira (adalimumab injection solution for subcutaneous administration)
  • Azasan (azathioprine)
  • Imuran (azathioprine)
  • Entyvio (vedolizumab for injection, for intravenous use)
  • Remicade (infliximab)
  • Trexall (methotrexate)
  • Tysabri (natalizumab)
  • Stelara Injection (ustekinumab)
