Boniva (ibandronate sodium) Injection is a bisphosphonate used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in women after menopause. Boniva injection is available in generic form.

The drug is often used to treat Osteoporosis .

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • chest pain,
  • numbness,
  • swelling,
  • coughing up blood,
  • severe heartburn,
  • muscle spasms,
  • new or worsening heartburn,
  • difficulty or pain when swallowing,
  • pain or burning under the ribs or in the back,
  • burning pain in your upper stomach,
  • new or unusual pain in your thigh or hip,
  • jaw pain,
  • severe joint, bone, or muscle pain,
  • contractions, and
  • numbness or tingly feeling around your mouth, or in your fingers or toes
