Urecholine (bethanechol chloride tablets)

Urecholine (bethanechol chloride tablet) is a cholinergic agent used to treat acute postoperative and postpartum nonobstructive (functional) urinary retention and for neurogenic atony of the urinary bladder with retention.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • diarrhea,
  • headache,
  • feeling unwell (malaise),
  • urinary urgency,
  • salivation,
  • tearing, and
  • abdominal cramps or discomfort,
  • colicky pain,
  • nausea and belching,
  • stomach rumbling noises,
  • drop in blood pressure with reflex fast heart rate,
  • flushing (warmth, heat about the face, sweating),
  • asthma attacks,
  • constricted pupils
