Betaseron (interferon beta-1b)

Betaseron (interferon beta-1b) is an immunological agent made from human proteins used to treat relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS). Betaseron will not cure MS, it will only decrease the frequency of relapse symptoms.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • nausea,
  • itching,
  • dark urine,
  • vomiting,
  • fever,
  • easy bruising,
  • unusual bleeding,
  • shortness of breath,
  • chills,
  • body aches,
  • tiredness,
  • seizure,
  • swelling,
  • flu symptoms,
  • rapid weight gain,
  • anxiety,
  • trouble sleeping,
  • impulsive behavior,
  • hostility,
  • aggression,
  • thoughts of self-harm,
  • mood or behavior changes,
  • depression,
  • hallucinations,
  • yellowing of your skin or eyes (jaundice),
  • purple or red spots under your skin,
  • joint pain, and
  • pain, swelling, redness, or skin changes at the injection site,
  • skin rash on your arms or cheeks that worsens in sunlight
