Cetacaine (benzocaine, aminobenzoate and tetracaine)

Cetacaine Topical Anesthetic (benzocaine, aminobenzoate and tetracaine) is a topical anesthetic used on mucosal membranes to suppress the gag reflex, control pain and ease discomfort during dental and medical procedures.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • itching,
  • rash,
  • shortness of breath,
  • tiredness,
  • severe headache,
  • wheezing,
  • fainting,
  • weakness,
  • drowsiness,
  • seizures,
  • red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever,
  • tightness in the chest or throat,
  • unusual hoarseness,
  • trouble swallowing or talking,
  • severe dizziness,
  • blue or gray color of the lips, nails, or skin,
  • abnormal heartbeat,
  • skin irritation where the medication is applied, and
  • swelling where the medication is applied
