Baycol (cerivastatin (removed from market 8/2001))

Baycol (cerivastatin sodium) is a statin drug that blocks the production of cholesterol (a type of fat) in the body and is used to reduce the amounts of LDL (bad) cholesterol and total cholesterol in your blood. Baycol also reduces the amounts of triglycerides (another type of fat) and apolipoprotein B (a protein needed to make cholesterol) in your blood and increases the amount of HDL (good) cholesterol in your blood. The brand name Baycol is discontinued, but generic versions may be available.
This drug may have the following side effects:
- headache
- sore throat
- nausea
- diarrhea
- dizziness
- constipation
- rash
- abdominal pain
- indigestion
- gas
- stomach upset
- bloating
- heartburn
- runny or stuffy nose
- joint pain
- flu-like symptoms
- weakness
- leg pain
- chest pain, or
- bronchitis
