Azasite (azithromycin ophthalmic solution)

Azasite (azithromycin ophthalmic solution) is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic used for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis.

The drug is often used to treat Conjunctivitis .

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • fever,
  • sore throat,
  • burning eyes,
  • skin pain,
  • red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling,
  • draining or crusting of your eye,
  • severe burning, stinging, itching, or other irritation after using the eye drops,
  • feeling like something is in your eye,
  • changes to the surface of your eye,
  • eye pain or swelling,
  • eyelid irritation, and
  • any signs of a new infection
The following drugs are related to Azasite, either as a replacement or used together:
  • Emadine (emedastine difumarate ophthalmic solution)
  • Polytrim (polymyxin b sulfate and trimethoprim ophthalmic solution, usp, sterile)
  • Sumycin (tetracycline)
  • Tobrex (tobramycin ophthalmic ointment)
