Azasan (azathioprine)

Azasan (azathioprine) is an immunosuppressive antimetabolite that lowers the body's immune system used to prevent the body from rejecting a transplanted kidney. Azasan is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. Azasan is available in generic form. Many people using Azasan do not have serious side effects.

This drug may have the following side effects:
  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • rash,
  • vomiting,
  • diarrhea,
  • fever,
  • swollen glands,
  • night sweats,
  • easy bruising,
  • unusual bleeding,
  • pale skin,
  • lightheadedness,
  • shortness of breath,
  • cold hands and feet,
  • pain in your upper stomach that may spread to your shoulder,
  • feeling full after eating only a small amount,
  • weight loss,
  • chills,
  • body aches,
  • weakness,
  • cough,
  • sore throat,
  • dark urine, and
  • pain or burning when you urinate,
  • difficulty with speech, thought, vision, or muscle movement,
  • feeling unwell,
  • severe nausea,
  • rapid heartbeats,
  • yellowing of the skin or eyes
